Uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 10 when all else fails

Hi everyone,

another great day for fighting PC’s and winning !!!

here is the situation Internet explorer 10 yaaaayy ….\

no no no yaay it was not all it was supposed to be. after updating this month a windows 7 machine would not boot. no problem simple rollback to the night before right? Well after the rollback internet explorer would not load. OK i would rather fight one program not loading than the entire Operating System. Here is where the problem starts I tried uninstalling the update for Windows Internet Explorer 10 i navigated to control Panel.Programs>Uninstall a Program>View Installed Updates> Windows Internet explorer 10

The update would not uninstall so i was stuck with Internet Explorer 10 the error it was giving was something to the effect of updates were not uninstalled properly rolling back changes. Ok next we tried the uninstall tool for Windows found here Fix problems with programs that can’t be installed or uninstalled However the Id for Windows Internet Explorer 10 was not listed easily while searching for it i found this helpful post about a forced removal of Internet Explorer 10 and a rollback to Windows Internet Explorer 9 with this code it must be run with an elevated command prompt

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /quiet /norestart"

Here’s is the code to rollback from Windows Internet Explorer 9 to Windows Internet Explorer 8:
when you run the code you may get a few errors ok through them and run the code again.

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

Finally fixed the problem
